Hollyoaks is a drama series set in Chester - in the fictional borough of Hollyoaks. The first episode went out on 23rd October 1995, aimed at 16 to 24 year olds - and now the show attracts an average of 5 million viewers per week!
In 1999, a third weekly episode was added with a fourth being implemented in 2001. The series was devised by Phil Redmond, who also created Grange Hill and Brookside.
Hollyoaks is shown on Channel 4 in the UK: Mondays & Tuesdays, at 6.00pm, with an omnibus edition on Sundays at 10.25am, And on E4: Monday - Thursday at 7.30pm, with an omnibus edition on Saturdays at 3.25pm.
Although Hollyoaks is set in Chester, most of it is shot in Liverpool, which is where the production company, Mersey Television is based.
The cast memebers who do not live locally tend to rent flats near to the site. Many casyt membres gang together and share a place and there are two houses in paticular which have entered into the Hollyoaks folklore! Situated next door to each other, one house is full of a group of lads, and the other by group of the girls. Various members of the cast have lived in the houses since the show started, and the parties have been legendary!!
